So I went off to the Afro Hair and Beauty Live show on bank holiday Monday, which turned out to be quite a disappointment. I was hoping to find new and exciting hair and beauty products but the show was dominated by the usual suspects of old. In addition, there were weaves galore, and wigs, and even more weaves! I was actually surprised at how popular it is to hide one's crowning glory under a bushell of someone else's hair. Maybe I am just out of touch, tell me if I have missed something here!
Well, as the tumbleweed blew across the desert I suddenly stumbled across two nuggets of pure gold; Becca Cosmetics and Mashooq.
Becca Cosmetics was a breath of fresh air: the stall was busy but the the girls made you feel welcome; the lady I spoke to was really friendly and knew the products well. It was a really professional outfit and the make-up looked gorgeous.
The Mashooq stall was also very welcoming. I was pleased to see that the people on the stall had used the hair product they were selling in their hair, and were able therefore to talk passionately and convincingly about the product. Needless to say I bought products from both stalls so watch this space for my reviews.
Welcome
So who am I? I am a black woman of African descent, born in the UK, married to a lovely Welsh bloke with 3 even lovelier kids! So here 's the thing: I love living in the UK, but I have one major issue, and that is that for most of my life it has been exceptionally difficult to find hair and beauty products that are right for me. Black skin comes in a range of beautiful colours from the very light to the very dark; however, this fact appears to be lost on the majority of shops selling cosmetics. It doesn't necessarily mean that the products are not out there, but just that you often have to search hard to find them.
For this reason I am setting out on a quest to find the best products, for black women, that make us feel gorgeous.
The products may not be specifically produced for black women, so I hope that all women will find some of the products appealing.
I will test anything and everthing on myself, my family and friends and anyone else who is willing. I want to share this journey and my experiences with you, so hence the blog.
I would like this to be an interactive forum; I would love to hear from you so that we can share views and information. Tell me which products you can't live without, which ones you hate, and what you need but can't find. Leave a comment or contact me at zelda.wolfle@googlemail.com Why not climb on board - I hope you enjoy the ride!

Five Star Cleanser

Thought I would let you know about a product that I have been using for some time:
Liz Earle Cleanse and Polish Hot Cloth Cleanser
I have to rave about this particular product. For years I have used a range of different cleansers, none of which really seemed to work perfectly on my combination (mostly oily!) skin - then hey presto! I stumbled across this little beauty. I absolutely love it. According to the bumph on the bottle, this cleanser can be used on any type of skin and it removes eye make-up too. It contains cocoa butter, rosemary, chamomile and eucalyptus, and smells gorgeous. It feels delicious on your skin, soft and creamy, with the hint of a tingle. You massage the cream into your skin and then rinse the muslin cloth (supplied with the cleanser) in hot water and gently polish off the cream. It feels rather like a mini facial and has done wonders for my skin, which is softer and clearer. It also gently exfoliates your skin. I have not had to use a face scrub at all since I started using this product. At a cost of £12.50 a bottle it is a tad expensive but I have been using mine for 4 months and its still going strong. It is definitely worth the money. Truly Fab is my verdict on this item . Go to the Liz Earle website to buy online: www.uk.lizearle.com
